マツダは、グローバルに需要が高いSUV市場において、ラージ商品4車種を2023年までに導入予定です。CX-90は、昨年導入したCX-60に続く、「走る歓び」と「環境安全性能」を大幅に進化させたラージ商品群の第2弾となります。ラージ商品群の導入により、各市場の特性や顧客ニーズに応えるSUVラインアップを拡充することで、マツダはビジネスおよびブランドのさらなる成長を図ります。
CX-90は、重要市場である北米のお客様のニーズを踏まえて新たに開発された商品です。「For the Voyage of your life（人生の航海のために）」のコンセプトのもと、運転する愉しさや、家族や友人など多人数でのドライブをさらに楽しくする快適性や機能性、安全性能を高めたワイドボディ3列シートSUVであり、マツダの新たなフラッグシップモデルとして今春、米国より導入します。

北米ではPHEVとガソリンターボの2本立て

Built on Mazda’s all-new large platform, the three-row crossover represents the company’s new flagship vehicle with wider, longer, and more aggressive proportions that perfectly blend its high-performance appearance with world-class refinement. Mazda CX-90 is available with all-new electrified powertrains, including an inline 6 turbo and a plug-in hybrid, that offer drivers enhanced performance and efficiency.

- e-SKYACTIV G 3.3T：340HP（253.5ｋW、344.7PS）/369lb-ft（500.3Nm）
- e-SKYACTIV PHEV：323HP（240.9ｋW、327.4PS）/369lb-ft（500.3Nm）
と明らかにされています。
車体サイズや車両重量などの詳細なスペックは未公表です。アメリカの他にカナダやメキシコでもCX-90に対する動きがありました。

なぜか、豪州仕様として発表されたのは、PHEVの代わりに直6ディーゼルと直6ガソリンターボの2本立てです。
Available with an all-new 3.3-litre inline six-cylinder e-Skyactiv turbocharged engine offering 254 kW and 500Nm of torque, the First-Ever Mazda CX-90 becomes the most powerful mass production petrol car ever developed by Mazda.
Alternatively, an equally appealing e-Skyactiv turbocharged diesel engine, sharing the same 3.3-litre capacity, inline-six configuration and MHEV technology, will be available from launch, with a power output of 187 kW and a substantial 550Nm of torque.
